Generational Curses

What is Generational Curse?
        A curse that passes down the family line.
The Living God says in the Bible Numbers 14:18 (NIV) 'The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.'
        So if a person does not keep up the commandments of the Lord then curse is on him and also follows up to his third & fourth generations. So if his next generation also disobey the commandments of the Living God then the heredity curse keeps prolonging down the genealogy.

How to identify a generational curse from issues in life?
         Find if the issues passes through generations. Just ask the person if their parents had similar issues. Then we can trace the family line. Normally these generational curse keeps on continuing till someone accepts Jesus Christ and breaks the bondage of generational curses.

Different types of generational curses?
         Some of the common generational curses are diseases that causes the person to waste away everything.
Bible proof in
         a.Leviticus 26:15-17 and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it. 17 I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you.
         b.Deuteronomy 28:21-23 The Lord will plague you with diseases until he has destroyed you from the land you are entering to possess. 22 The Lord will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, with blight and mildew, which will plague you until you perish. 23 The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron.
         c.Deuteronomy 32:23-25 "I will heap calamities on them and spend my arrows against them. 24 I will send wasting famine against them, consuming pestilence and deadly plague; I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts, the venom of vipers that glide in the dust. 25 In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror will reign. The young men and young women will perish, the infants and those with gray hair.
         So diseases like HIV, diabetes, cancer, mental illness and issues like poverty, drought, war, wild animals, poisonous insects etc could be because of curse.

How to get rid of these generational curses?
         God likes to bless us but when we don't obey to his commandments He will surely warn us first but if we still progress further then comes all problems. The Lord himself tells us in the Bible through Moses in
         Deuteronomy 7:11-15 (NIV) Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today. 12 If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the LORD your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors. 13 He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and olive oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. 14 You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor will any of your livestock be without young. 15 The LORD will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.
         As from the above verse we see God wants to bless us but when we get into problems then this is the solution given by God himself Leviticus 26:40 "But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me,
         Now how to confess our sins and the sins of our ancestors to break the generational curses?
We are in the new testament era, Jesus has taken all our curses on the Cross Bible teaches in Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole."
         So here are the steps to break generational curses.
         1. Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God who sacrificed himself for our sins.
         2. Then forgive people who have wronged you and then
         3. Confess our sins(wrong doings) through prayer to Jesus.
         4. Then pray for the forgiveness of the sins of our ancestors.
         5. Know the commandments of the Living God and keep the commandments & live a holy life.

Sample prayer to overcome hereditary curse

Sample prayer: Dear Father in heaven I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God who shed his sinless blood on the cross for the sins of all mankind and arose again on the third day. Dear Jesus I accept you as my savior, please forgive all my sins and take charge of my life. I thank you Jesus for you have bore all my curses on the cross, please forgive the sins of my ancestors and set me & my generation free from the bondage of all generational curse & bondages.
         Bible says in John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
        
Should we still keep up the law?
         Some people feel that as we are in the New testament era there is no need to keep up the commandments given by the Lord. Here are the words said by Jesus himself in Bible Matthew 5:17(NIV) "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
         Hence let's follow the above 5 steps to break generational curses and live a blessed life forever.
